Villages of the Realm is seeking two skilled volunteer voice actors to become the principal hosts of Organic Statecraft: The Modern Leviathan and the Lost Architecture of Freedom.
This is a long-form historical and philosophical documentary presented as a natural conversation between two intelligent hosts. We are not looking for announcer voices, commercial delivery, or audiobook narration. We are looking for two people who can listen, react, question, clarify, and think through serious ideas together.
Organic Statecraft explores an older vision of social order in which the human person is protected not by abolishing authority, but by distributing authority among real social bodies: family, property, local community, professional association, civil authority, and Church.
Villages of the Realm is deliberately non-monetized. Its films are created and distributed as a charitable educational effort intended to help people recover practical solutions to social problems beginning with the home, family, local community, voluntary association, and the principle of subsidiarity.
There is presently no production budget. Participation in Organic Statecraft is entirely voluntary and carries no promise of future compensation.
The long-term hope is that Villages of the Realm may someday become part of the outreach work of a nonprofit organization. If donor funding eventually makes professional production budgets possible, future production work would be paid whenever possible.
Organic Statecraft: The Modern Leviathan and the Lost Architecture of Freedom asks a counterintuitive question:
Can human freedom become more fragile when the institutions standing between the individual and concentrated power are weakened?
Through a two-host conversation, the documentary explores family, property, subsidiarity, local authority, professional associations, civil government, and the Church—not as isolated political topics, but as parts of a larger social architecture.
The film draws from Catholic social teaching, historical sources, and social theory while carefully distinguishing between doctrinal authority, historical example, and interpretive argument.
At its center is a simple image: shields. Living institutions that stand between the human person and concentrations of power, while also limiting one another.
A mature male-presenting voice with warmth, intelligence, and grounded authority.
Host A carries much of the documentary’s explanatory material. He introduces historical sources, develops arguments, makes distinctions, and helps the listener see how the pieces of the social order fit together.
But he should not sound like a lecturer, announcer, preacher, or audiobook narrator.
We are looking for someone who sounds as though he knows the material deeply but is explaining it to an intelligent friend across the table.
Vocal qualities
Mature • grounded • thoughtful • warm • articulate • conversational • quietly persuasive
The performance challenge
Make difficult ideas sound discovered rather than recited.
An adult female-presenting voice with intelligence, warmth, curiosity, and a natural willingness to challenge an argument.
Host B is not merely there to ask scripted questions. She reacts, summarizes, presses objections, notices implications, and helps turn explanation into genuine conversation.
She should not sound combative, sarcastic, bubbly, or theatrically skeptical.
We are looking for someone who sounds genuinely interested in the argument—even when she is testing it.
Vocal qualities
Intelligent • warm • curious • engaged • perceptive • natural • conversational
The performance challenge
Make questions sound like real thoughts rather than cues for Host A’s next paragraph.
Shortlisted performers will therefore be invited to a brief live callback with prospective co-hosts before final casting.
Conversation, not narration. The hosts should sound as though they are listening and responding to one another.
Thought in the moment. Questions, realizations, objections, and clarifications should feel newly encountered rather than prepackaged.
Clarity without affectation. The material is intellectually substantial, but the delivery should remain natural.
Restraint. No movie-trailer gravitas, commercial enthusiasm, exaggerated skepticism, or theatrical performance.
Long-form listenability. These voices must remain engaging and comfortable over an extended documentary.
We want the casting process to be simple, respectful of your time, and focused on what matters most: natural performance and chemistry between the two hosts.
The initial audition is deliberately short. Finalists will then meet prospective co-hosts in a live remote callback before the roles are offered.
Choose the Host A or Host B audition provided below and record the supplied lines in your natural voice. We are listening for conversational instinct, clarity, thoughtfulness, and long-form listenability—not commercial polish.
A home recording setup is perfectly acceptable. We would rather hear a natural performance on a good home microphone than an overproduced performance that hides your actual voice.
Please do not imitate an AI, podcast host, famous narrator, or another actor. We want to hear you.
Upload your audition through the submission form at the bottom of this page. Along with the recording, we will ask for your name, preferred screen-credit name, email address, time zone, the role you are auditioning for, and an optional demo or portfolio link.
MP3 or M4A is preferred for auditions. A WAV file is also welcome if the upload size permits. Heavy mastering, music, reverb, or effects are unnecessary.
STEP THREE — Live Chemistry Callback
Strong individual auditions will be shortlisted for a brief remote callback. Prospective Host A and Host B performers will be paired together and asked to read a short scene live.
The callback will focus on listening, reaction, timing, conversational rhythm, and whether the two voices naturally belong in the same discussion.
Chemistry may matter more than which actor has the most impressive solo voice.
STEP FOUR — Final Recording
The selected actors will record together remotely using Riverside or a comparable isolated-track recording platform. Both performers will hear and respond to one another in real time while each voice is recorded locally on its own high-quality track.
We will record the documentary in manageable chapter sections rather than attempting the entire production in one marathon session. Direction, pronunciation notes, and the final script will be provided in advance.
Every audition will be considered on the quality of the performance and its fit with the other host. We are not casting on a first-come, first-served basis.
Finalists will be contacted directly to arrange a callback. Once both hosts have been selected, all applicants will be notified that casting has closed.
Sunday, September 6, 2026 — 11:59 PM Central Time
If you are interested but discover the casting call very close to the deadline, please submit what you can rather than rushing an elaborate production. The performance matters much more than polish.
Please audition for one role only, unless you genuinely believe you could perform either host.
These excerpts are intentionally short. We are not testing memorization, studio mastering, or your ability to imitate a particular voice. We want to hear how naturally you can think through the material aloud.
Read the words as written, but do not “perform the punctuation.” Imagine that the other host is sitting across the table from you.
1.
Look at your smartphone for a second. Just think about how many terms-of-service agreements you've clicked accept on in the last year.
2.
Exactly. You're legally autonomous, but often institutionally alone. You may have rights on paper, but when the other side has thousands of employees, lawyers, databases, regulations, procedures—you're one person with a password and a case number.
3.
Fair objection. But we're not asking whether we should travel backward in time. We're asking a structural question. When you dismantle institutions that once stood between the individual and concentrations of power, do you remove only chains?
4.
The organic model protects the human person not by abolishing authority, but by distributing authority among multiple real social bodies—family, property, local community, professional association, civil authority, and Church—so that no single human institution ordinarily possesses the entire social field.
Performance note: Speak to one intelligent person across the table. We are looking for quiet authority, not gravitas for its own sake.
1.
Oh, dozens. Probably hundreds, honestly.
2.
Yeah. Infinite choice in one direction, almost no bargaining power in another.
3.
So maybe the question isn't just, “How free am I from restraint?” Maybe it's also, “What actually gives me standing when I run into power?”
4.
Good, because that's the first objection. People hear “guilds,” “customary law,” “monarchy,” “organic society,” and the reflex is basically, “Okay, come on. Medieval cosplay.”
5.
So what if some of those walls weren't just restraints? What if some of them were also ramparts?
Performance note: Let the shorter lines genuinely react to something another person has just said. We are looking for curiosity and intelligence, not scripted skepticism.
A professional studio is not required for the audition.
Record in the quietest space available using the best microphone you reasonably have. A home studio, USB microphone, or well-recorded portable setup is perfectly acceptable.
Submit one continuous take if possible. You may include one alternate take if you believe it demonstrates a meaningfully different interpretation.
Preferred audition format: MP3 or M4A
WAV: welcome if the upload size permits
Please avoid: music, reverb, heavy noise reduction, voice effects, or aggressive mastering
Do not imitate an AI-generated host, celebrity, or existing narrator. We are casting your natural voice.
Villages of the Realm will not use your audition or final performance to create an AI voice clone, synthetic voice model, voiceprint, training dataset, or artificial reproduction of your voice.
Audition recordings will be used only for casting. Recordings from selected performers will be used only for the documentary, related promotional excerpts, and other uses expressly agreed upon with the performer.
We are seeking human voices because we want human performance.
